The correct answer is 330 MILLION pounds.
The average healthy human intakes about 5 pounds of food a day to fuel a body.
IN THE US, 2.3 MILLION PEOPLE DIE EACH YEAR TO HUNGER RELATED DEATH.
Come on! This is pure insanity that does not need to exist. We do not have to see anyone hungry. There is more than enough food to feed people and feed them well.

We soft Launched this BDay fundraiser on Monday and sent it wide today. We are thrilled that our angel donor is matching dollar to dollar with our Goal at $11,111.00 to finish the fist week in August at $22,222 ! That is 2 months of operational support and will provide food for over 10,000 families for a week or more and recover up to 50,000 pounds of viable food from landing in waste.

Have you ever thought of volunteering on the Rescue Truck itself? Have you wondered.... "how do they get this food!?" Come find out! Allot of folks ask me if we dumpster dive. NO!! We set up elaborate programs and systems that align with the donors. We have a route Monday-Saturday that usually covers 6-10 grocery store locations and we the viable food up from those stores! Our rescue efforts roll out from Littleton, CO. everyday at 7:30am and land back at Joy's in Lakewood around 10:30 for our other volunteer teams to unload, sort and position for the community! Record breaking numbers of need- the heat is real. This is something we can and should heal.
Today we experienced a true 0 end to the day. We got everyone who showed up fed, also the last guest received the very last.
We fill fast, and we will be at rescue again tomorrow; also without consistent placed systems to match the gross amount of viable waste the need, it’s hard to understand how to get enough for the droves of people who are suffering in plain sight fed.
Today was challenging. We always operate in Joy, also that doesn’t mean that encountering the depravity doesn’t hurt. It’s hard to understand why these problems exist in a time where there are basic solutions that work.
Today we fed 129 Walk through families, 32 scheduled appointment families, filled 4 Denver Community Free Acess Refrigerators, Sent 65 boxes of food to the doorsteps of the elderly, disabled vets and ill . Tomoorw starts and finishes in the same way and it’s going 6 days a week. We love to do what we can and be the example-

Joys has 2 vehicles down this week and in the shop!
One of the experiences we face as a grassroots organization is maintaining vehicles in constant motion.
We have 3 trucks, 3 trailers and the car to maintain. These vehicles are used often and hauling full on a daily basis which means lots of strain!
Right now, our 2009 GMC Sierra as we use as our main truck is down with front end repairs needing about $2000.00 , our other 4x4 Chevy Silverado is down needing general maintenance repairs totally about $3000.00.
We are doing logistic wonders this week and fitting puzzle pieces together as we go; making sure there is not a lapse in food recovery- also just like any tight fitting system- the domino effect is happening with double staff hours for 3 of us to cover the food with one trailer to get the food to the 1500 families that will come before repairs are done next week.
We are setting a goal that by the end of 2025, we will have 3 trucks that are within 5 years of their model dates that we can rely on dependably . This is a budget increase of 150,000 yet we know that the constant repairs to older models have created a huge issue in reliability to our program.

Today I was fortunate to speak with the elders at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church and present Joy's Kitchen: Rescue Food - Feed People to them.
It’s one of my favorite things ever to be invited to speak about Joys and the unique impact we make in this world to change makers and gems of love in the community. Wow! What a treat!
I found out today the range of impact this group of people have and it’s just awesome inspiring .
I also got to present to one of my role models who serves there that started food justice work way before her time. Shirley Bradsbe was one of the founding members of The Action Center and has been an example of love for the underserved for decades.
